Weekend on the Ghats
so it was weekend and the plans that had just been plans for so long had finally come to see the light of day. eight of us packed for the two day trip and started out at twelve in the night on a special bus after having missed the last scheduled bus for the night headed to vishakapatnam. bumpy and rickety the old bus got us to our waypoint a few hours earlier than we expected. four in the morning and we had no idea what to do. the kirandul passenger etd was 0730 hours. talked about going to rk beach and other things but finally walked to the train station and has some early breakfast, got tickets and finally each of us found for ourselves a spot to read the day's news and chat up on the yet to be planned stay in the valley. the train arrived on time and there was all hell let loose as it was the only one that went into the valley. after a scramble, landed a seat next to einstein and dozed off immediately. a few hours later woke up to find the train snaking through the hills. things were looking not so good for me. the valley as going to be cold and i was already on cephalosporins for my tonsillitis. go ahead and have fun the doctor said. and so i did. then i started having my doubts. anyway, our train was late by a few hours and we finally got there in the afternoon. showers, lunches, and we were set to get some sightseeing done. the tribal museum was a bit of a let down. just what you would learn to expect from govt musuems here. a mockery. at most a distant imagery of what tribal life was like. then the drive to chaparai waterfalls. it was wonderful, so many safflower fields kind of made it look right out of ddlj. at chaparai we crossed the stream and took a few pictures on the other bank and on the way back went rock sliding in the stream. dont know if thats what its called but made it worthwhile, the trip. always saw it on national geographic or discovery and wanted to try it. at first thought i would bust my bottoms, but it was smoother ride than i thought. had to give the tonsils a break and take a leap. that was worth it. that night wasnt much but a lot of tv and tt. sunday we went to the padmapuram gardens, another waste of time. five rupees wasted to see some semi landscaped acres in the foreground of some of the most beautiful green hills one could ask for. another ride for 45 km and then came the borra caves. the place was prehistoric but the mere number of humans swarming inside could put neanderthals to shame. but was worth it even the little we saw. drive back to hill road and to vsp were uneventful at best. got some pizza hopped onto the fp and got home at around eleven, the trip was kind of fun. now if only these tonsils would let me sleep.
